Go AI: KataGo Offline Trainer

About Go AI: KataGo Offline Trainer

My son started learning Go at seven. One lesson a week at the dojo, and he wanted to keep practising at home - but I could not find an app I was comfortable handing him. Sign-in walls, ads, recurring subscriptions. So I wrote this one.

Learning Go for the first time? Start here: follow a clear path from placing stones, liberties and captures to capture-1, capture-3 and capture-5 challenges, then a guided introduction to territory on 9x9. Learn the rules by playing and move naturally into a complete game. This beginner course is free.

10,000+ PROBLEMS Organised by theme - liberties, atari and capture, connect and cut, shape, snapback, shortage of liberties, net, squeeze, semeai, life and death. The collection includes 420 explained beginner rule exercises across ten units. Layered hints and explanations help you understand why a move works, not just where to play.

9x9, 13x13 AND 19x19 Use 9x9 to learn captures and territory or finish a shorter game, 13x13 for fighting and middlegame practice, and 19x19 for the full Go experience. Chinese rules, adjustable komi, undo, pass, resign and move hints are always within reach.

KATAGO, RUNNING ON YOUR PHONE Go AI runs KataGo, a state-of-the-art neural network Go engine, natively on your device - not on a server. Play on a plane, on the subway, anywhere you have a few minutes.

16 LEVELS, 12 KYU TO AMATEUR 4 DAN Weaker levels don't just play slightly worse - they make the kind of mistakes a real player at that rank makes, so every game stays honest and instructive. KataGo's Human SL model is included too, in three styles: modern, traditional and varied.

REVIEW EVERY GAME Step through any finished game move by move with a win-rate graph, see exactly where the game turned, and check the top candidate moves at any point.

TRACK YOUR PROGRESS 23 growth milestones mark the journey from your first stone and first capture to wins against every AI rank. Celebrations make each achievement visible. Win rate, streaks and complete game history are stored separately for each local player.

PRIVACY No account, no ads, no third-party analytics SDK. Your games and records stay on your phone and are not uploaded. The app may fetch a small configuration file at launch; AI play, training and review continue to work offline after installation. Purchases and configuration updates require a connection.

Whether you are starting from the rules themselves, grinding tsumego to climb from 12 kyu toward amateur dan, or you just want a strong offline opponent in your pocket - Go AI is built for you.

Try AI games, training and hints for free. A one-time purchase unlocks unlimited games, training and hints. No subscription.
